Langkawi is a jewel in the Strait of Malacca off northern Malaysia — an archipelago of 99 islands. Duty-free shopping, pristine beaches, tropical rainforest, and the world’s only Sky Bridge: Langkawi is the kind of island that makes you want to book flights immediately.

Pantai Cenang: Langkawi’s Golden Coast

Pantai Cenang is Langkawi’s liveliest beach — about 2km of white sand flanked by restaurants, bars, and dive shops. Watching the sunset over a seafood dinner at a beachside restaurant is the standard Langkawi ritual.

Water activities: Parasailing, banana boat, kayaking, transparent kayaking — Pantai Cenang has plenty of water sports options, and around $30–80 per person covers three or four activities.

Snorkelling: Pulau Payar is Langkawi’s best snorkelling spot, about 45 minutes by boat from the main island. Underwater visibility reaches 20–30m; you can spot clownfish, sea turtles, and large groupers. A full-day snorkel tour with lunch runs approximately $80–120/person. Book through Klook to lock in your spot ahead of time.

Sky Bridge: A Vista Above the Mountains

The Sky Bridge hangs approximately 700m up Mount Mat Cincang, spanning 125m with its narrowest point just 1.5m wide. From the bridge, the Langkawi archipelago and the Strait of Malacca stretch out in all directions.

Getting there: Take the Oriental Village Cable Car to the mid-station (one of the world’s steepest gondola segments), then transfer to a shuttle to the summit and walk about 10 minutes to the bridge.

Tickets: Combined cable car + Sky Bridge ticket is approximately $25–35/person. Book ahead online through Tiqets to avoid queues.

Eagle Square and Other Highlights

Dataran Lang (Eagle Square): Langkawi’s landmark — an 18-metre copper eagle atop a replica war vessel. Even more dramatic under floodlights at night.

Black Sand Beach: About 25 minutes from Pantai Cenang; the sand has a unique dark grey tone from weathered volcanic rock. Far fewer visitors — ideal for a quiet walk.

Langkawi Wetlands Centre: Red mangrove swamps; take a boat ride through bat caves, limestone formations, and tropical vegetation. A hidden gem for nature lovers.

Shopping: The Duty-Free Island

Langkawi is Malaysia’s duty-free island — alcohol, chocolate, perfume, and electronics are competitively priced. Kuah Town, about 10 minutes from Pantai Cenang, is the main shopping district; Billion (the duty-free megastore) is the largest.
